As a concerned Canadian, this month I have to take the initiative and say something about garbage. As you can tell from the pictures, there are a lot of people who really don't care about where they throw their garbage. I do a fair amount of shore fishing and no matter where I go people are leaving their garbage behind. Just recently a friend and I had to rescue a musky that was caught up with a plastic bag around his mouth, and in the bag, when we got it off, were dirty disposable diapers. I do realize that most people don't think that the garbage being thrown and left behind is a big issue; that we have bigger issues to deal with. Well, I'm sorry, but for those of you who don't, just take a walk along our shorelines and roadways and I know you will be as disgusted as I am. It's our responsibility to take care of the world we live on. We have recycling programs nowadays and the're getting better every year; and the weird thing is, that in this area it's free. I'm frantically trying to find a totally biodegradable container for worms, with no results as of yet. So, in the meantime, let's put the recycling with the recycling and our garbage in its proper place. A lot of people I've talked to about this say that it's the tourists who do this. NOT!! I've witnessed a lot of locals tossing their garbage, be it cigarette butts or coffee cups and wrappers from various fast food outlets. I put an ashtray and garbage can out in front of my store and it does get used, but I still see people throwing butts and garbage all over the parking lot. Some people have said that the province and city should hire on more people to clean it up (create jobs). Well I don't know about you, but I don't want anyone cleaning up after me because of my filthiness and I don't want my taxes being raised to pay for my stupidity. We all have to do our part (everyone). Remember, it takes more effort to go and buy this garbage than it does to dispose of it properly. I have not hurt myself in any way, whatsoever, when I go home and grab my recycling and garbage out of my vehicle and drop them into their proper containers, while I walk into my home. So, next time you're out driving or walking, take a look at what is being thrown into our wildlife's homes and I think...no, I'm sure you will see what I do. It's getting a lot worse than what you think. Now for some good stuff!! Bass season is now open, and did it open with a bang this year. The winning weight for the first Quinte Bass Tournament Series was over 23 lbs. for 5 fish. Of course, these fellows won't say what baits, but I went out on Sunday evening and we hammered them on both the Bagley Chatterbait and the original Chatterbait. We also caught a lot on top water Spro Frogs and Yamamoto Sinkos. The only thing we could get on Spinnerbaits was pike, but they were fun to catch. Remember, have fun, be safe and take everything home that you brought with you. TIP OF THE MONTH: A couple of huge advantages you can add to your arsenal for bass fishing are using top water baits such as fake frogs, and with a second rod, have some sort of plastic worm rigged up Texas style. This system is used in heavy cover, lily pads, mossy top cover, etc. If you miss a fish when bringing the frog across the top, grab your worm rod and pop it into the same hole as where you missed it on the frog. Ninety percent of the time, he'll take it. Then hang on! Article brought to you by: Skevy's Outdoor Specialties 48 Dundas St. W., Unit 4 Bellville, ON K8P 1A3 613-969-7981
